The upcoming annual Sultan of Selangor’s Cup (TSSC) is shaping up to be the football match to look out for, largely in part because of the Selangor and Singapore rivalry which has existed since days gone by, and its yearly revival since the meet started in 2001.

For this year’s prestigious cup, a total of RM1.8mil in sponsorship has been contributed, with RM1.2mil coming from state government linked companies including Worldwide Landfills Sdn Bhd are contributing RM200,000.

HRH Tengku Idris Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Sharafuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj was the Raja Muda of Selangor in 2001 when he initiated the Regent of Selangor’s Cup to foster better relations between Selangor and Singapore.

With the coronation of the Sultan in 2003, the yearly competition was renamed The Sultan of Selangor’s Cup and is now a showcase of football talents in Singapore and Selangor.
