Generous backing for popular cup tie

THE Sultan of Selangor’s Cup (TSSC) annual cup tie that will take place on May 7 has once more received generous support from all quarters for its upcoming 15th edition.

A total of RM900,000 was collected from sponsors comprising the Selangor State Government, Selangor government-linked companies and the private sector.

Topping this year’s list of sponsors with a contribution of RM100,000 each are Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS),Worldwide Landfills Sdn Bhd and Puncak Niaga Holdings Berhad.

The other sponsors who contributed RM50,000 are Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB), Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB), Selangor Treasury, Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI), Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS), Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Bhd (KDEB), MCT Consortium Berhad, Splash Sdn Bhd, EcoWorld Development Group Berhad, Nirvana Memorial Park Sdn Bhd, Ecofirst Consolidated Berhad and LBS Bina Group Berhad.

Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah along with TSSC organising chairman Tan Sri Abdul Karim Munisar received the sponsorships during a high-tea reception at Istana Alam Shah on Wednesday.

Last year, Selangor and Singapore fans were left dashed at the eleventh hour after the worsening haze forced the match to be called off.

Abdul Karim said the committee rolled over the sponsorship from last year but because it was a last- minute cancellation, there was not much that could be done in terms of cost saving as a large part of the sponsorship had already been utilised by then.

“Anticipation for the match is even higher than before now due to the cancellation last year and now that the Lions Twelve are no longer in action in the Malaysian Super League,” said Abdul Karim.

Also present at the ceremony were High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore Vanu Gopala Menon, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar as well as former and current Selangor players.

The Sultan of Selangor’s Cup 2016 will be held at the Shah Alam Stadium and kicks off with the nostalgic curtain raiser Veterans match, featuring legends of the Selangor and Singapore rivalry and will be followed by the main match.

Selangor fans will be pleased to know there will be a meet-the- players session on April 2 at 3pm in SACC Mall, Shah Alam as part of the promotion campaign for the match.

Tickets priced at RM10 will be available from mid-March onwards at Uncle K outlets in: Paradigm Mall, SACC Mall and Cyberjaya as well as Concorde Hotel Shah Alam and at the Shah Alam Stadium on match day.
